Compass itself shouldn’t be relied on in mountains but useful for general direction
Good compass, loud whistle, handy thermometer and magnifying glass. All useful items in a light, compact design.
When walking with a map it’s great to be able to glance at the whistle and see the compass to orientate the map the magnifier is excellent for plotting to route or removing splinters the thermometer is a hand tool and the whistle is very loud and would grab attention
