My wife gets really cold toes when skiing, shectrshe these for the first time yesterday. Her feedback...ties still cold but not freezing. We'll use them again but a definite improvement on all previous ski outings

Great in ski boots in really cold weather

All our family members put these in our ski boots when it is really cold. Stick well so they don't move about. Have worn them on the foot-bed (how I believe you are supposed to) but I actually prefer to wear them on the top of the foot (stuck onto the ski sock) and they keep the toes really toastie! Very versatile.

Works well

I have raynaud's disease which kicks in during winter so I need to always keep my feet warm the whole time, and this warmers works for hours.

Good for skiing

Keep your toes warm when skiing. I find they don't work as long as the package says.

Awesome product

It is exactly what I needed. I work in a cold environment and mostly standing in one place, not moving to much and this warmers really helped to keep my feet warm.

Burnt Skin Through Socks

Slapped one on each sock before a short road trip. Felt the heat a bit much on one foot. After 3 hours, took off the sock to see red rash on one foot. It became a painful blister a day later. Don't know why it happened on one foot and not other, and despite being on top of socks. Overall, I'd take the cold over blisters, unless it's blisters vs frostbite

I am sorry for this bad experience. You can of course get a refund for the entire package, even if it is started, in the Decathlon store of your choice.

I allow myself to copy / paste how our product works, for optimal use, in case you want to try again, telling us again if it's better or the same.

Anyway, thank you for this information about our product.

_ a heater is a mixture of activated carbon powder and iron powder, which produces heat by oxidizing the iron.

_ the choice of the proportions of the mixture makes it possible to play on the T ° supplied / the heating time / the heating speed. We chose the T ° limit so as not to have a risk of burns (45 ° C for the feet / 65 ° C for the hands) and the choice of duration (5 hours for the feet and 6 hours for the hands). We have given up on having a rapid rise in temperature: you have to wait 10 min at 20 ° C for the heater to rise to 45 ° C, or rather 15 min, if you are outside in the cold or at high altitude (2000/2500 m). The cold or the lack of oxygen slows down the start of the reaction, but that's it, afterwards, once it is gone, it heats up strongly and for a long time.

_ the reaction starts on the production line, the mixture is 100% controlled, then the reaction is stopped by enclosing the heater in the plastic bag.

_ the reaction starts again when you open the heater

_ and above all, THE VERY IMPORTANT POINT for foot heaters which are more complicated to operate well than the hands, is to always enclose your very hot heater (40/45 ° C) in the shoe. This is all the more important if your activity takes place in very cold weather, or if the heater is confined in a very airtight shoe: rubber boot, cycling shoe with neoprene overshoe, or cycling shoe. ski. There, it will also work, but on the sole condition of putting the very hot heaters in the shoes.

_ otherwise, the reaction will not be started again enough, and it will choke, it will not be able to self-feed thanks to the initial heat. And at the end of the activity, taking it out of the shoe, the reaction will resume and you will throw a hot heater in the trash. Which can be very annoying after having cold feet!

The best thing to do to be happy with your heater is to start the heater at home or in the car. And if you put it on the heater (radiator or car dashboard, towards the hot air), it speeds up the start and it will be really hot, and that is the "secret" for it to heat up. GOOD and LONG: start your activity with a heater in the hottest.

A tip: for example, you are skiing, you are cold and you want to put the heater on during the day. The ideal is to go to the toilet, and start the reaction under the heat of a dry hand. It will really speed up the start.

An important point on the other hand: after the activity, remove the heater. For example, if you leave it stuck on the sock, while driving with the heating on your feet fully, there is a risk of superficial burns, because under a heat source, it can rise above 45 ° C.

The heater provides additional heat. The warmer it is, the more it heats up ... possibly causing superficial burns.

3. INTENSIVE SPORTING PRACTICE IS TO BE RADICALLY EXCLUDED (cross-country skiing, figure skating type,…… because sweating will “wet” the mixture too much and the reaction will get carried away.

CAUTION: children sweat 2 to 3x more than adults on their feet and hands with equal sporting practice

4. DO NOT STAMP IT ON THE KICK, because on this area, the laces press, there is friction which will accelerate the reaction. GLUE THE HEATER WELL ON THE TOE ZONE ONLY.

Not easy to use in cold climate

Does not warm up easily at sub 10°C temp

Additional Product informations

  • 18% Water

Never stick the warmer directly to the skin. Children, the elderly and disabled people should use this product with care and under supervision.Seek the advice of a doctor before use in cases of diabetes, delicate or sensitive skin, blood circulation problems, paralysis or damaged nerves, rheumatoid arthritis, if you are pregnant or if you have any doubt.External use only. Do not apply to frostbite or desensitised skin.Do not use while sleeping.

How it works

A little like a fire, a combustible (iron powder/active carbon mix) and a combustive (oxygen in air) are required. So the reaction stops_when there is no more active carbon (definitive stop after approximately 5h_or in an airtight environment (in a rubber boot or with neoprene cycling overshoes). The interruption is temporary = if you give the warmer more air, the reaction will start up again.

1. Remove the warmer from the bag and knead it to start the heating process with the oxygen and humidity in the air,2.wait 10 minutes as the HEATER MUST BE WARM before enclosing it in your boots.3. ideally open it in an environment with an ambient temperature of 20°C (at home, in the car, etc),4. although activating it at 0°C is possible, you will have to wait longer for the warmer to be hot.

What should i do if my warmer stops heating after 1 hour? or if it doesn't heat enough?

The reaction stopped due to lack of air.Remove the warmer from the boot and give it more air, knead it between your fingers to warm it faster and place it back in your boot only when the T° has increased well. There is nothing more frustrating than being cold during exercise, and then once you are home, having a warmer that heats up again and throwing it away when it is burning hot.

Beware of burn risks (1/2)

4 situations should be avoided:1. NEVER STICK THE WARMER DIRECTLY TO THE SKIN2. DO NOT KEEP THE FEET WARMERS IN THE CAR WITH THE HEATING ON THE FEET, OR EVEN AT HOME IN FRONT OF A CHIMNEY FIREThe warmer gives extra warmth. The warmer it is, the more it warms... until possibly causing superficial burns.

Beware of burn risks (2/2)

3. INTENSIVE SPORTS ACTIVITY SHOULD BE COMPLETELY AVOIDED (such as cross-country skiing, figure skating, etc. as the perspiration will dampen the mix and it will overreact.WARNING: kids’ feet and hands sweat two or three times as much as adults for the same sports activity4. DO NOT STICK TO THE FOOT ARCH as laces rest on this area and friction will accelerate the reaction. STICK THE WARMER TO THE TOE AREA ONLY.

Borderline cases

_if there is no air around the warmer : enclosed in a neoprene shoe cover or in rubber boots, ..._in extreme conditions: In very cold weather, the warmer provides extra warmth in addition to the T° it is used in, but unfortunately, if the T° is too low, it has trouble_in very high altitude: > 3000 m, the lack of oxygen limits the reaction.

Good to know

To keep your feet nice and warm with these foot warmers, you should know that the_exothermal reaction starts on the production line,_there is a 100% check of the active mix,_then only at the end of the line the foot warmer is inserted in the plastic packaging that stops the reaction and therefore heat production. It will start again when the pack is opened, with oxygen and humidity.

Single-use product

The exothermic reaction consumes the activated charcoal and oxidises the iron. Once the fuel is consumed, the reaction is complete and the powder becomes hard.
