Product description

Find all the markers during your orienteering races with this thumb compass, fitted with a rotating capsule and fast and stable needle.

A key element in the starter pack of beginner or experienced orienteers, the new version of the ergonomic and comfortable RACER 500 compass can be adapted to both left and right thumbs.

Description

Find all the markers during your orienteering races with this thumb compass, fitted with a rotating capsule and fast and stable needle.

WHY SHOULD I WEAR MY COMPASS ON MY THUMB?

Since the principle of an orienteering race is to find your way using a map and compass to find a maximum number of markers within an allotted time, time-saving solutions are always welcome! You can attach this compass directly to the thumb of your choice and read a map and compass at the same time, without stopping running and keeping your hand free! Handy, right?

AN AMBIDEXTROUS COMPASS COMPATIBLE WITH BOTH LEFT AND RIGHT THUMBS.

With just a simple movement, the RACER 500 compass can be used with both right and left thumbs. It also seems the right time to remind you that left-handers usually find it easier to wear a compass on their right thumb, and right-handers on their left thumb; you can thus use your strong hand to move branches out of the way, keep your balance or carry an electronic control card to log those markers!

THE RIGHT BALANCE BETWEEN STABILITY AND SPEED FOR GREATER PRECISION

Because a stable needle allows you to read your compass while running and thus stay on course, we chose a 'pivot' needle; this can lock your needle in place and keep you on the right bearing, while a stability disc mitigates unwanted vibrations of the needle, enabling easier reading. Lastly, a powerful magnet beneath the needle ensures fast reaction times... The ideal combo for saving time!

WHEN ERGONOMIC PRINCIPLES RHYME WITH PERFORMANCE!

More ergonomic, the new version of the RACER 500 compass has a more rounded shape so you can carry it on your thumb for hours at a time, while forgetting you are actually wearing it (having a sore thumb in addition to running through brambles - that would really take the biscuit). Moreover, the viewing angle has also been redesigned and is now more precise than before. I am sure you will agree that greater comfort and precision makes for improved performance!

AND WHAT ABOUT THE GRADUATIONS?

Did you know that the 3cm-graduated pointer on the end of the compass will help you find your position and calculate distances on a map? "So, 2 cm on the map, at a scale of 1:15,000, means 30,000 cm, so 300 m! You need to be good at doing sums in your head!"As well as the linear graduation, our compass also has angular graduation, located at every 2 degrees on the rotating capsule, so you can take bearings.

OIL BATH?! WHAT'S THAT ALL ABOUT?

All Evadict compasses are filled with viscous oil; it's true that when we put it like that it seems a little off-putting, but 'bear' with us! The oil bath actually allows your compass to ensure optimal performance in terms of speed, stability and precision... I'm sure you'll have got it by now - the oil bath also contributes to improved performance during orienteering races! And that's pretty crucial, no?

can I use my compass all over the world?

Since this compass is balanced for us in the northern hemisphere, if you use it near the equator or in the southern hemisphere, it will still indicate the north, but the stability might be affected.

OUR TIPS FOR PAMPERING YOUR COMPASS

Because your compass is a key ally in orienteering (perhaps even your perfect partner), here are a few recommendations for taking care of it as much as it takes care of you: we recommend that you store your compass is a cool place, avoiding excessively high or low temperatures or changes of pressure. Lastly, after you use it, we advise you store it in a fabric pouch to protect it from scratches.

AN ENVIROMMENTALLY FRIENDLY COMPASS

Following the improvements we have made, the new version of the RACER 500 compass now bears an label. In concrete terms, we selected a glycolised polyester plate rather than plexiglass and put three holes in the plate at the thumb to install a magnifying glass, which makes the compass lighter. All these changes helped considerably reduce the impact of the RACER 500.

A key element in the starter pack of beginner or experienced orienteers, the new version of the ergonomic and comfortable RACER 500 compass can be adapted to both left and right thumbs.
