Can i be sure that my boots are warm enough for my winter hikes?

We chose a warm lining that has insulation to give you effective protection from the cold.We tested it in the laboratory and in the field with our user representatives. We checked the temperature down to which it stays comfortable when you're stationary and when you're walking, as this varies a lot: -12°c in static mode and -21°C on the move. We also took into account how temperature is felt differently by men and women.

How do my boots protect me from outdoor conditions?

Your boots have been designed with a mid-height structure (WATSHELL double inner wall patent) that’s 100% waterproof to protect the part of the foot most in contact with the snow (waterproof boot up to 2/3 height). The textile upper is water-repellent and warm to give you good protection against cold and snow ingress.

How can i be sure my boots are 100% waterproof?

We made sure that your boots are waterproof by conducting laboratory tests to simulate walking with the boots half-submerged in water. We also conducted field tests to measure wear and ageing. During the waterproofing test, we test 3 levels of waterproofing: 2000 flexes (approx. 4 km walk), 4000 flexes (approx. 8 km walk) and 8000 flexes (approx. 16 km walk). Your boots were tested to 8000 flexes, which is equivalent to 16 km of walking.(NB: The upper is water-repellent)

What is the difference between traction and grip?

The boots’ traction depends on the number and shape of the studs. The grip is dependent on the materials of the sole and the tread pattern, like the tyres of your car. Traction optimises propulsion, prevents the boot from slipping backwards when going uphill and stabilises the boot.Grip prevents the boot from slipping and skidding on smooth ground or in demanding conditions (rain, snow, ice) by giving the sole grip.

Which type of grip and traction does this boot provide?

Equipped with SNOWCONTACT soles, your boots are designed for maximum grip comfort for hiking and traction on snow. The arrangement and height of the studs (5mm) are strategically placed for optimal grip when hiking on snow. The surface and layout of the studs are designed to perfectly grip the layer of hard snow and evacuate excess water to avoid slipping.

How does the snowcontact technology used on the boot sole help me?

SNOWCONTACT soles are made with a specific component and stud pattern that is designed to ensure the best possible grip and traction. SNOWCONTACT soles are more effective than traditional soles on snow. When walking on ice, the only way to ensure optimum safety is to add anti-slip grips to your boots.

Will my boots withstand regular use over the long term?

Our engineers conduct laboratory tests to ensure that the product fully complies with your satisfaction in use. Our verifications include the following elements: tearing eyelets and straps, gluing, toxicology, UV resistance, abrasion resistance of outsole and upper components, accelerated ageing.

How do i choose the right footwear for snow hiking?

To be well equipped in winter, we recommend that you follow these guidelines : Warmth:warmth provided by a warm pair of socks (ideally containing a suitable percentage of wool)Breathability: Choose the sock according to the intensity of the hike and make sure you wear a breathable model to minimise moisture.Boot height: adapt the height of the sock to the height of the upper and preferably choose high models if you want more protection.

How to preserve the technical qualities of my boots?

A fabric's water repellent property is its capacity to make water run off its surface without seeping in. This prevents the fabric from soaking up water and keeps it lightweight, warm and breathable. The water repellent property is achieved by treating the fabric's exterior. This treatment needs to be renewed during the lifetime of the garment. Products (spray or liquid) for this purpose are available in our stores.

How does my product warranty work?

This product is guaranteed for 2 years from the date shown on the sales receipt. A product covered by the warranty will be exchanged free of charge. The warranty covers product defects, excluding those resulting from normal wear and tear and improper use.

Really happy with these

I bought these to wear on a family holiday (8 days) to Lapland. I travelled in them and wore them every day while I was there. They were used to walk through half metre deep snow, on ice, up hills, while dog sledding, and occasionally standing around outside for long periods. I did pair them with a couple pairs of decent quality merino socks and/or ski socks, and went 1.5 sizes up (normally a 9, these were 10.5) to accommodate that, which was spot on. The only time my feet felt cold was one particular day when I was standing around and the temperature was below -20C, and I believe I'd made a mistake putting a third layer of socks on. I think these squashed the air out of all the socks and made them less insulating. Every other day, including in similar conditions between around -15 and -25C, with two pairs of socks my feet were just fine. They are warm, comfortable, easy to put on and off, robust and look good. Thoroughly recommended, especially at the price!
